Business: Accalia Salon

YOUR BUSINESS

Congratulations on opening Accalia Salon! Tell us what led you to this exciting moment:  I have been a hair stylist and make-up artist for 15 years, working in Minnesota, New York, Texas, and Hawaii before making Southern California my home.  I would say I was drawn to this profession because it lets me use creativity to help others feel good about themselves. Making personal connections with my clients has always been my favorite thing about being a hairstylist.

What do you think makes your salon special? Accalia Salon is unique because of the atmosphere that we’ve created. We want people to feel at home and to feel like part of our pack. From the décor and the music, to our service and attitude toward clients – our ultimate goal is to provide thoughtful, personalized services that enhance people’s natural beauty. We want everyone who walks out of Accalia feeling better than when they came in.

What is the best compliment you have been paid about your salon experience? As people see the new space for the first time, so many have commented that it feels like home or cozy. That’s exactly what I envisioned! Chad, John and Mike at Copper Collar Maintenance were amazing to work with and a lot of the elements in the salon are homemade including the shelves, mirrors, and custom windows. (see pic in the slideshow below) Hearing that people want to stop by just to hang out or say hi is my favorite thing!

What hair styling products to you favor? We carry Davines hair care products from Italy. They are an eco-friendly, highly biodegradable, naturally sourced product line that smells AMAZING!! The Oi All In One Milk is flying off the shelves, it does everything! It is for all hair types, it is lightweight, it softens, detangles, controls frizz, moisturizes and adds shine. But their hand balm is our bestseller – it’s fantastic. It is incredibly moisturizing, but not greasy. As the salon is currently closed, you can order online and we can deliver these products to your door in Coronado or Imperial Beach!

Are you currently offering any specials? Yes, our Gift cards! For every $50 purchased, you will receive an additional $10!

What service would you recommend to a first time visitor?
While we offer all hair and nail services, it might be best to stop in for a blowout and get to know the team. All first time guests who mention this article can receive one of our Circle Chronicles conditioning treatments complimentary with their service!

Is there anything people would be surprised to learn about your business? The name Accalia comes from Greek mythology and represents a she-wolf. I have three Siberian huskies - Bella, Cadillac and Omar - that keep me busy at home, so this name is quite fitting for my wolfpack!

YOUR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

What do you hope to achieve by joining the Coronado Chamber of Commerce? I’m a first time business owner and joining the Chamber is a great opportunity to connect with others in the community. I have already been given the chance to learn from some of them, and for that I am grateful. I’m excited to be part of this group and to grow together to make Coronado an even better place.

Is there anything else you would like your fellow Chamber members to know about you or your business? My business is an extension of me. I designed every detail, picked every piece of décor, and even cut, sanded, stained, built, and hung my own shelving. I love it and I hope you will too!

Would you like to offer a discount to Chamber Members? Yes! We'd like to offer half-off your first haircut, blowout, or manicure service.

Are there any fellow Chamber Members you would like to personally recommend? Thank you to Bill Sandke for coming out to our opening, it was great meeting you. Rena has been so incredibly supportive and I cannot thank her enough. Hayley Beard has also been a supporter from day one. She gets her hair done by our talented stylist, Cassidy, so thank you to Hayley for supporting the both of us.

YOUR CORONADO

What is the best thing about doing business in Coronado? The best thing about working in Coronado is the clientele and sense of community. I’ve known some of my clients now for 5 years. I know their families, their stories, their history – and many of them know mine. The community is something I’ve always loved being part of, and now I can contribute even more as a business owner. I am really happy to showcase artwork from Gretchen Weidner (Instagram @gretchen_weidner) and pottery from Jim O’Brien (jamesobrienpottery.com) in the salon and I’m looking forward to other partnerships with local artists and businesses.

Where do you take out of town visitors to impress or charm them? There are so many great places in Coronado, but The Tavern has great food and drinks and a great atmosphere. And of course Coronado Brewing Company is a must! They’ve also been very supportive of Accalia Salon, including donating a gift basket for our grand opening raffle.

YOUR LIFE

Would you like to introduce us to your family?
My parents Loren and Sarah came from Minnesota to support me during the ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening. My sister Heather and 3-year-old niece Amelia came from Washington, DC, but visit often because I am completely obsessed with that little nugget. And of course, my Accalia family – Brandi, Cassidy, Ceci, Jenna, Sarita, and Tana. Without them, none of this would be possible. I love our pack!

Do you have any special hobbies or interests? Since I was young, my family and I have been camping, fishing, and hiking; basically anything outside. I’ve even been known to bring some fresh yellowtail in for my clients! My sister and I visit at least one baseball stadium a year, and we are over half way done seeing them all! I also have a freakish ability to remember song lyrics.

Thank you Jessica! We can't wait to visit when your salon reopens at 131 Orange Ave, Suite 103. (619 435 1779)
