Name: Jeanmarie Bond
Business: Coronado Schools Foundation
Please describe your business: Coronado Schools Foundation (CSF) is a broadly-based, nonprofit community organization whose purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. Its role is to promote and maintain quality education and welfare of all students within the boundaries of the Coronado Unified School District (CUSD). Through community involvement and support, CSF raises and manages funds to provide the STEM and Arts Pathway programs available to all students enrolled in CUSD.
How many years have you been in this business and what first drew you to it? CSF was founded in 1982. I came to CSF in November 2019, after a ten-year career at UC San Diego. I chose to leave a very successful career at UC San Diego because I so firmly believe the mission of CSF, to provide quality enrichment educational opportunities for all students enrolled in our district. I am the proud parent of two Coronado school district alumni and know first-hand the value of the education they received in our schools and feel it is important to give back to our district.
What do you think makes your business or service special? Donations to CSF impact each and every child enrolled in CUSD and ensure that they receive the additional STEM and Arts enrichment course and programs that set them up for success.
What is the best compliment you have been paid about your business or service? The best compliment I have been paid about CSF is not so much a verbal acknowledgement, but an actual action. Beth and Jack Elardo, who are 6th and 7th graders at CMS, believe that the programs CSF funds are so important to their education that they have personally raised and donated more than $11,000 to our organizatoin. The best compliment I have witnessed is this extreme act of service and commitment by two of the students who are impacted by the programs CSF funds.
If you are in retail, what are the bestsellers in your store? Any fun new products coming up? Our products are our students, and CUSD has amazing kids enrolled in our schools!
If you represent a restaurant, what are your most popular dishes? Any specials or themes coming up?
If you offer a service, which option would you recommend to a first-time client? Any specials?
Is there anything people would be surprised to learn about your business? CSF has an amazing team of accomplished individuals with impressive professional backgrounds fueling our fundraising efforts. They are all parents of children enrolled in our district, and they choose to work for CSF, instead of elsewhere, because they so strongly believe in our mission.
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
What do you hope to achieve by joining the Coronado Chamber of Commerce? Having worked off the island for the past 15 years, I am looking forward to getting to know my fellow Coronado business owners and residents on a much better basis. It’s good to be home.
Is there anything else you would like your fellow Chamber members to know about you or your business? I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve the students in our Coronado community, and honored to be able to work closely with Superintendent Karl Mueller and the other district administrators to provide outstanding experiences and education enrichment for all of our students.
Optional: Would you like to offer a discount to Chamber Members? (For example, Dollie Handbags & Accessories offers 15% off, Glorietta Bay Inn offers 25% room rates.)
Are there any fellow Chamber Members you would like to personally recommend?
Do you live in Coronado? If so, how long have you lived here? Yes, I have lived her for 22 years.
How would you describe life on Coronado Island? Safe, friendly, and very family oriented.
What is the best thing about doing business in Coronado? (Clientele? Walk to work? View from office window? Sense of community?) The tremendous support of our community members and strong sense of ownership they have for our schools.
Where do you take out of town visitors to impress or charm them? I love to take them to the beach, or down to the pool at The Shores to relax in the sun.
Would you like to introduce us to your family? I have two adult sons, Phil and Christian, who graduated from CHS in 2004 and 2007 respectfully. Phil is a lawyer in downtown San Diego, and Christian is a fulltime employee of Coronado Fire, working with the year-round lifeguard team under Captain Sean Carey. Phil’s wife Lauren is a Navy nurse at Balboa Hospital, and they have two adorable children – Griffin aged 2 ½ and Palmer 8 months.
Do you have any pets you would like to describe? Do they ever join you at work? I am a true animal lover, but because I live in The Shores, it’s hard to have pets. However, I do enjoy my older son’s Pug, named Mugsy!
Do you have any special hobbies or interests? Too many to mention – I love to cook, sew, do various crafts, read, walk on the beach, swim, and the list goes on. But my favorite pastime of ALL is spending time with my grandchildren.
